Here's what some of our many happy customers have had to say about Layton's Boatworks over the years.
A Long Time Customer
I’ve been a customer of Layton’s Boat Works for about six years; the company has been the exclusive dealership and servicing agent for the Yanmar 6YLA – STP that’s installed in my Mainship Pilot 34. There are several other boatyards that are closer to me but because of their outstanding customer service and tecnical expertise, I have used Layton’s for all my servicing needs. Doug Layton has always been very responsive to my requests and makes the time to travel from Edenton to my marina in order to do whatever is necessary on my boat. In addition, I recently had an emergency situation while underway and Doug was immediately able to resolve the issue with me on the phone, even before I was back in my marina! The office staff, particularly April Layton, puts customer service first on their priorities and I’ve always experienced rapid response to every phone call I’ve made to the folks there. Based on my history with Layton’s, I would recommend them very highly. They are a great company to deal with.

Layton’s is very knowledgeable
I was recommended to Layton’s Boatworks when I was looking for knowledgeable people to help me survey a boat of interest in October 2010. Doug was mentioned as a very qualified and experience mechanic that was well respected in the Yanmar engine field. Doug helped me review the boat along with another certified boat surveyor. I was well satisfied with results of the inspection and when it came time to accomplish the repairs required I asked Doug for an estimate. He and Carlton helped me move the boat to Layton’s and develop a plan for repair – minus the winter weather. I am well satisfied with both the advice and work that was done and feel that Layton’s Boatworks was a big help to me as well as the work place of two knowledgeable gentlemen in the marine repair market place.

A Great Explanation
I recently purchased a 2002 Albemarle 247. The seller was a former Albemarle employee and has a great reputation. Knowing this, I still wanted to do due diligence and get a mechanical survey on the engine and outdrive. Since I was purchasing the boat in North Carolina , I was fortunate to be able to have the engine survey done at Layton ‘s Boatworks. How did I know about Layton ‘s? While researching and looking for the right Albemarle for over two years, I consistently heard of Layton ‘s and their solid reputation for knowledge, honesty and dependability when it came to building, servicing and repairing boats. Additionally, I was referred by Albemarle, who I chose to refit the boat once I decided to purchase it. After Doug Layton completed my survey, he took the time to explain all of the results and what they meant to him if he was purchasing the boat. Due to his sincerity, which fit in with everything else I had heard about Layton’s, I purchased the boat and chose to have Doug service the engine and outdrive bringing its maintenance up to date. I was very satisfied with the timeliness, price, and quality of the survey and work done by Layton ‘s. All of Layton ‘s work was coordinated with Albemarle and was seamless. Since running the boat in Maryland , I’ve had instances where I needed further mechanical advice due to bad fuel(ethanol) and an impeller that I burnt up. Each instance, I called Doug and he took the time to provide advice and guidance. If I ever need to do a major repair or repower of my boat, I plan to trailer it back down to North Carolina so Layton ‘s can do the work. I unquestionably recommend Layton ‘s for anyone needing work done on their boat.

A Quick Fix
After two years of hit and mostly miss experiences with local “Volvo Certified” mechanics, I finally took the advice of several Albemarle owners and towed my 247 the 4 ½ hours to Layton’s Marine. It took Doug Layton about 30 seconds to diagnose a problem that I have sunk much time and capital into correcting – kudos to the Layton team!

I Put my Trust in Layton’s
I have used Layton’s Boatworks almost exclusively for work on my boat (1997 25′ Carolina Classic) since 2005. In 2007, I received sound advice from them regarding a re-powering project for the thing (outed a tired Volvo KAD42P & replaced it with a 315hp Yanmar). Carlton & Doug’s advice was heeded by me without much discussion or debate & I uncovered that trusting them to do the right thing for the boat & for me is well warranted. They really know their stuff on Albemarles & Carolina Classics (I’ve owned an Albemarle & 2 Classics & am loyal to those brands) & I can wholeheartedly recommend their yard to any knowledgeable boater.

Amazing Talent
Layton Boatworks’ amazing talent transformed my Carolina Classic and their customer service was excellent. My love of my boat is right up there with my wife and kids, when her engine blew up I wasn’t about to hand her over to just anyone. After careful research and countless calls and emails with Doug Layton, I knew I could trust him to do a diesel conversion and get her back in the water. I couldn’t be happier with the results. His attention to detail and customer satisfaction is genuine and continues even after I brought my boat home. In addition, Layton Boatworks had the vision to replace the one piece jack shaft with a two piece jack shaft that virtually eliminated all existing vibration under power. It’s a totally different boat, even better than new!

Proud New Owner of a 50′ Custom Sport Fisherman
As the proud new owner of a 50′ custom sport fisherman now docked in Manteo, NC., I can vouch for the quality of service provided by both Doug and Carlton Layton over the past several years. In fact, they have performed so well, I decided to leave the boat in their back yard rather than bring it back to my home state of Louisiana. They are gifted craftsmen and offer a quality maintenance service for boat owners like me. After Dave Sintes designed my boat, the Layton team brought the finished product to reality and she is a real work of art. The recent hurricane scare along the North Carolina coast gave many boat owners cause for concern, but the Layton’s immediately assessed the risks and took appropriate measures to insure the safety of many boats in their area. I highly recommend anyone owning a boat or contemplating having a custom hull built give them a call. You will be glad you did.
